Taking photos outdoors in grey winter weather

Do you get worried about your photo session when you see the weather forecast showing clouds all day? Don’t stress it, I’ll show you how to make clouds and wind work in your favor.

It is without a doubt the most unpredictable factor when it comes to an outdoor session. We all know about 6 months out of the year it's cold here in Germany and weather is just unpredictable. Many people might shy away from getting their photos done in the colder months and rather would prefer their sessions be held in summer time on a sunny day with perfect weather, no cloud in the sky, right? Well, let me tell you - sometimes, a moody winter day can be the perfect setting and here a few reasons why:

⛅ CLOUDS ARE YOUR FRIENDS!
I'd take a cloudy day over a blue sky any day. Why you ask? Because clouds add drama and mystery and depth and in my opinion is like seasoning for foods. They just make everything better :) Of course that not only goes for winter days but any season. But even clouds are not so predictable. Sometimes the sky can be just a big grey curtain and sometimes mother nature is in a great mood and creates the most beautiful clouds and it's magic.

⛅THE COLD
I totally get it that with younger kids, harsh weather conditions can be a bit more challenging for a photo session but that's when wardrobe comes into play. Adding layers and comfy accesoires can make a big difference and add to the photos. And if that's not enough, snuggle until you get warm! I always love snuggles in my photos :)

⛅ THE WIND
Now this is my favorite. Wind adds - just like dramatic clouds - a level of mood, character and movement to your photos which will just add so much more interest! Often I have people move around a lot but if we catch a windy day, even better! Less work for you :) Let the wind work in your favour.

Anyways, I just wanted to point out that a cloudy windy winter day does absolutely not mean that it's not good for photos. Sometimes it's actually quite the opposite. Give it a go, take a risk and be blown away by the outcome.
